Keeps Gettin' Better: A Decade of Hits is the first greatest hits album by pop singer Christina Aguilera. The compilation contains the biggest hits from all of the singer's studio albums released to date: Christina Aguilera (1999), Stripped (2002) and Back to Basics (2006), as well as two new tracks and two re-made tacks. The album was released on November 7, 2008 in Europe, and on November 11, 2008 in the United States, exclusively in Target stores. The album will be released to other countries throughout November 2008.
Among the tracks confirmed for the main version of the album. There are three of her four number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100; "Genie In A Bottle", "What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" from her debut album. She also re-recorded "Genie in a Bottle" (with the title of "Genie 2.0", which she previewed at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards) and "Beautiful" (in the style of music included in her next album, with the title "You are What You Are (Beautiful)"), which will be included in the compilation. Other new songs include title track "Keeps Gettin' Better" and "Dynamite".
Billboard described the new sound as futuristic with beats driven more toward dance music. Additionally Aguilera added, "This time around, I'm playing with this superhero element based on the fact that fans have grown up with me since I was 17 and have continually supported my changes throughout the years."
When Christina was asked about the two remade songs, she answered with ," And I kind of wanted to play by reinventing 'Genie in a Bottle' and 'Beautiful'. Sort of giving them new life in a completely different direction and giving people a sneak preview of what's to come."
In the U.S., the album was released exclusively through retail giant Target on November 11, 2008, although it has been said that there are plans to release the album wherever music is sold at a later date, specifically in the first half of 2009. As of September 30, 2008 you could have pre-order the album online or you can pre-order the digital album and will be coupled with a free download of Christina's new single "Keeps Gettin' Better".[4]. Christina Aguilera also shot a short video with Target promoting her greatest hits. There still has not been any information if the album will be released in other stores later on.
Also to be released is a deluxe version that includes the music videos for the singles on the album (excluding Keeps Gettin' Better and the bonus tracks).
Aguilera started her promotional tour on October 11 performing at the UK leg of the Thisday Africa Rising at the London’s Royal Albert Hall, where she performed several old hits and the lead single of the greatest hits album. In late October she was supposed to tour Eastern Europe, holding concerts in Moscow, Riga and Kiev. The concert in Latvia was postponed for next year. Instead, she held two concerts in Kiev, Ukraine, on the 20th and 21st of October. On October 19th Aguilera appeared on the Turkish version of “Deal or No Deal”, where she had also performed two of her songs. She won 180,000 YTL (approximately $110.500 USD) on the show and it went to a charity program for orphans. The last date was held on October 26 in Abu Dhabi at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
On November 23 Aguilera will promote the greatest hits album performing at the 36th annual American Music Awards.
The lead single Keeps Gettin' Better was leaked to the web on September 5, 2008 and was officially sent to radio stations on September 22, 2008[16] after being premiered on the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards on the night of September 7, 2008. The song became a top 10 hit when it debuted at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
